Journal Two:Amanda Gifford

Hello my name is Amanda and Marion is my hometown. Art has been a main focus in my life and has been since elementary. My favorite artist is Andy Warhol by his unique perspective in his art and quotes regarding life through the pop art era. This inspiration has fueled my interest in perusing an art career. A fun fact is that own 70 pairs of converse shoes. I got my first pair my 8th grade year of middle school and have been collecting since. A hobby of mine is photographing my shoes when I travel.

The profile that really made a presence was on Maury Graham. His sense of voice was embodied within his story in his foundation in the ways of the Hobo. The tricks and trades of the vanishing culture lead to a realization of an end of a way of life featured around respect. The Hobos had a community and a language of acceptance within it. In our modern times it feels society has a bum attitude in not grasping that we have the ability to take opportunities and make differences in our surroundings with a little work. "The country was full of one-legged, one-armed men. And a lot of people died and a lot of men did get hurt, but I never did. It was a lot of hard knocks" ( pg. 21). His will to make it - within this way of life shows his resilience in the trade. He saw the ugliness of character and still preceded through now being looked to as a leader. His story is inspiring to see how through grueling circumstances it is possible to achieve and leave an imprint on the lives of others.
