Marie Curie is definitely a very interesting visionary. She got her doctorate in the early 1900's which like you guys talked about, was very unheard of. The fact that she also won two Nobel Prizes back to back is very very impressive. Because of everything she did, improved our x-ray technology today which is awesome and we owe her a lot of gratitude. And the fact she gave up her life for this is heroic. I am glad you guys taught us about her!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she was talked about. Marie Curie has been overshadowed by her husband and isn't given the recognition she deserves. I also enjoyed your speech about feminism.
ReplyDeleteWell done: I liked how you talked about her family life as well as her work life. Too often people attempt to categorize women into categories because they just can't believe a woman could ever be anything but a 2D stereotype. You're either the career driven, cold-hearted successful woman or you're the homemaker who attends PTA religiously. Too often i've been told that I can't both raise a family and have a career as an engineer. That it would be too much, too difficult, and end up harming both. I don't believe that for one minute. Marie Curie was able to be both a scientist and raise a daughter. Why can't I? I'm not even aiming to win Nobel Prizes! I appreciated the "angry feminist rant" more than I can express. It was an integral part of this story.
ReplyDeleteConstructive criticism: I would some of the pictures would have been bigger/easier to see.
I have a question regarding the way you said she was remembered for her perseverance instead of her Nobel worthy contributions? Was this the point? to highlight how, by putting her on a feminist pedestal she has lost her scientific value and has been reduced to a story about not giving up?
ReplyDeleteThis presentation would be a good inspiring for the women and men. I really like your slides, they are colorful and didn't had much writing, only the main topics about her. Which is what the point of presentation and you guys did very well on that. one thing you guys can improve would be make more eye contact with the audience rather than reading from a paper.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this quotes: "You can't make a better world, without improving individual".
I really enjoyed the presentation! At first I was wondering where you were going to take the "feminist rant", but then really enjoyed it and thought it was completely necessary and fit Marie Curie's personality. No doubt she was a visionary of her time and field of work.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the presentation. The fact that she risked the safety of her health within working with x-rays for the benefit of many is heroic. Learning that she won two noble peace prizes back to back is amazing. The video at the end really helped tie her prominence in the science fields together and highlight the stigma the female gender still faces. A handout would have been helpful in absorbing all of her accomplishments. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLoved the presentation! You guys did a great job of showing how Marie Curie was a visionary and did a great job of incorporating feminism in the presentation. It was a very inspirational presentation. Marie Curie was a brilliant mind and I was glad you guys did her. My only criticism was I wish you would of shared a little more photos of Marie.
ReplyDeleteI abseloutley loved you presenation!! It was so empowering. You guys really made me feel her empowerment with what she believed in throiughout this presenation. You talked about her overcoming challenges just for her education and that really made me reflect on myslef and our generation. How easy most of us have it education wise. We are all basicaly spoon fed compared to Marie Curie. I feel like if you guys had made it more easy flowing and less rehearsed, it would have been right on the money! The video you guys added at the end was such a great call-to-action. I always saw snippets of this video on instagram but I've never seen the full video- and I'm happy you guys showed it to us. Great presentation you guys!
