Journal Two - Hunter

Hi, my name is Hunter Merchant, i'm 19 years old, and i'm a social work major here at OSUM. (I've changed my major three times since starting out here, so we'll see how long that lasts)! I live and grew up in Marion, Ohio and currently work at the bookstore here on campus and CVS Pharmacy across town. My family lives in Marietta, Georgia, 595 miles away! I spent my high school years as a cheerleader and i'm still trying to figure out what I'd like to do with my life but for now, i'm grateful for where i'm at but excited for where i'm going!
I enjoyed the first few profiles of Holding On, my favorite being on Lawrence W. "Happy" Davis. I relate to his stories of having to deal with the disgusting sides of humanity, especially on page 25 talking about how any of the train riders could treat you like dirt for little things that you may or may not have done and how his boss would treat them terribly if they didn't like them. Working two customer service jobs really does show you the difference between great people and the trash of society! Like Happy Davis, my coworkers and I remember the people who treat us wrong and right. I also enjoyed on page 25 on his last day of work: "I never thought the last day would get you" ... "Anybody want this uniform?" Nobody accepted it, so I threw that uniform into the Potomac River. No more working, no more uniform, no more nothing"! I often think about my last day of working at CVS and trashing our godawful blue and red polos. I'm counting down the infinite amount of days I have until I get a new better job! I hope i'm as happy as Happy Davis on my last day of working!

  1. I completely agree that working in customer service jobs, you get a new perspective on how people treat others! There's always the good part of society, yet the really bad.
