One thing I am holding onto is the tradition of hunting in my family. It's something that my mom's side of the family has done generations after generations. This is important to me because hunting stories is something you'll have forever. You'll always remember that exciting time that you seen something or the scary times when things have gone wrong. Personally, I can sit down with my mom and grandpa (her dad) and listen to them tell stories of their hunting adventures together. As of today, my grandpa is unable to walk very far without having to sit down, therefore his hunting days are over. My mom on the other hand has suffered a few strokes in the last two years, causing her dominant side (left) to be almost completely numb all the time. She believes it is best not to go hunting anymore because she can't feel the trigger to know how close she is to pulling it. Yet, I'm young enough to go out and make adventures of my own. Honestly, it's nice being able to share experiences with your family about things that have occurred while hunting. Since they are unable to go out and do it themselves now, I get the chance to share my stories. It's nice knowing 4+ generations of hunting from different states, animals, and comparing the old days to now. Hunting can consist of long days sitting still and never seeing anything, not even a squirrel. To barely being out in the woods for 30 minutes and you already have deer creeping up to you. It's the excitement that keeps me going to be able to share my experiences with my family, as well as the importance of the tradition itself.

I think it's cool that your family has a tradition that goes back generation and generations that has more or less stayed the same. Not many families can say they have that (or like each other enough to have a tradition that deep). Also, that deer is very cute.
ReplyDeleteIts very cool that the tradition of hunting and stories have been passed down for more than four generations .Its rich that you will be able to now share your stories with them since they are unable to continue. I love the trail cam pic it helps illustrate your passion for hunting.
