Journal Six: Tailor Wolf

My favorite photo from Holding On was the one of Geneva Tisdale. I felt like the photo was very powerful. In the photo she's in her work uniform, leaning over the counter and she's not smiling at all. The focus is completely on her and everything in the background is blurred. Everything about this picture shows power and strength which I believe definitely goes along with her story because she wasn't afraid to be part of the change.

The thing that I'm holding onto is athletics and the sense that I can push my mind and my body past their limits to better myself and my health. I'd been playing and succeeding at sports since I was 5 years old and then when I graduated high school I made the choice to not play volleyball in college because I didn't love that sport enough. My passion was basketball and I didn't have enough exposure to go to college somewhere for that. Since graduating high school I've found other ways to push my mind and body through physical activity. I play basketball whenever possible and I do P90X3 workouts everyday. Of course this is physically making me stronger but at the same time it's mentally making me stronger because I have to stay disciplined and make sure I do it everyday and it also makes me feel good about myself. I think that the concept of someone being able to accomplish any task as long as they have the right mindset is very important and it's something society needs to apply more often. People are quick to say they can't do something but that is the most wrong statement I've ever heard. I recently rode a bull in the practice round at a rodeo which is something that completely scared me at first but I figured that I was in good enough shape to avoid getting seriously injured and if I told myself I could do it, when it's all said and done I won't regret it. It was one of the most exciting things that I'd ever done and I was proud of myself for mentally getting past the fear and getting on. The mind is a powerful thing when driven and that's something I never want to forget.

  1. Its very cool that you conquered your fear and had a unforgettable experience with bull riding. I like your take on how people say they cant before they even attempt the task. I feel that if people took on more of can do attitude through the attempts there would be a more positive approach in trying new activities.
