Journal 9:Amanda Gifford

The YouTube channel I enjoy is vlogbrothers. I was first introduced to this channel in high school with the Crash Course videos. The videos cover a range of topics from history to science, statistics and more. The simplicity of the videos help break down complex topics into simple terms. Some of the videos are done by Hank Green and his brother John Green. Their usual blogs cover modern trending topics or are book related since they are both authors with Hank recently publishing a book.

John Green is an author who I have closely followed since my freshman year. In the fall of 2017, I had the opportunity to attend his Turtles All the Way Down tour in his home town of Indianapolis . In his lecture, he disclosed that his own diagnosis of OCD helped inspire this book allowing the reader a small view into what it feels like. His brother was also promoting the release of his new book. In the presentation, they performed a live version of a crash course and what they typically vlog. I highly recommend reading one of his books for the amazing metaphors that highlight relevant subjects in our society.

I feel the videos offer a different view on trending topics in the media. The videos have a vibe of a unique sense of humor. The videos cover a broad period of history in a span of ten minutes with a fresh perspective on each topic. The link included is a Crash Course by John Green on the topic of diseases. I always feel like I've learned something when taking the time to watch one of their videos.

  1. I love(d) when our teachers in high school used Crash Course and I still find some of their subjects interesting, I'm glad you picked this for your internet ed post and it's cool that you go to see an "episode" live! All of John's books are pretty good and I recommend if you haven't read them yet, to read Looking For Alaska and Paper Towns!
