Journal 9: Internet Education by Miranda

One internet source that I have found to really like is called Engine Masters. Based off of the Motor Trend YouTube channel that revolves around the building of vehicles, ranging from classic hot rods to a brand new soccer mom mini van. Originally, one day I was on YouTube looking up videos of what type of headers I should run on my truck in order to gain more horsepower. Now, I have came to this channel a few times to watch their videos of what kind of things I can do to my truck to gain more horsepower other than my headers, and get a better fuel economy.

This channel has videos that can relate to anyone, from small common issues on normal everyday vehicles to someone with a Top Fuel Dragster. They offer advice on what they believe is best (they are professional mechanics). Then they can prove what provides the most power and efficiency by allowing the motor with the parts they think are best onto a dyno. A dyno is a device for measuring force, torque, or power of a engine.

On this episode they wanted to see if CNC-Ported Aluminum heads were worth the money and time,
compared to a stock head for improving horsepower and torque.
Although I think Engine Masters is more geared towards people who are into modifying their vehicles. Someone who likes to have a fast car and can do the work themselves benefit most from these type of videos. We need this kind of education because it can show those who are "gear heads" the new technologies that can help build the vehicle of your dreams. As well as the old tricks that have been used for decades that can help any vehicle be more efficient.

  1. Nice resource! Even though Engine Masters is more geared towards people who are into modifying their vehicles and who already understand how cars work, I still think it's interesting and worthwhile because it really doesn't require that much extra information to understand what's going on. I watched the episode on Cheap vs. Expensive Mufflers and only had to pause and look up what they meant by something a couple of times (and I don't have much practical knowledge about cars). Also, now I know a quick trick for how to put oil into an engine quickly!

  2. I enjoyed this source a lot and I am glad you shared this post. I am really into cars and have helped build several engines my self. I like the kind of videos they post, they seem to try and help out all kinds of people and if you do not know a lot about cars, you can still watch their videos just like Ruksana said about the expensive vs cheap mufflers. I may actually keep track of this channel and really get into it when I have more money to put into a vehicle of mine. Good Share!
